Open MRI of Wichita features the 0.23 Tesla Picker Outlook “open” MRI system, which has been designed to be the most advanced and powerful system possible. With our system, you can enjoy the benefits of MRI without the fear of confinement; no tunnel — no worries! MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is ordered by your physician to evaluate internal body structures without having to use x-ray or surgery. MRI uses the physical properties of magnetic fields, radio waves, and computers to generate images of soft tissues within the body. MRI is a non-invasive procedure and there are no known side or after effects. Patients are asked to lie on a table and remain still for approximately 30 minutes to an hour depending on the test ordered. During the exam, a faint knocking sound will be heard, which is normal and is the operation of the imaging process. Earplugs and/ or music is provided for your comfort. The images are formed from signals emitted by tissue in the body. The MRI process captures different tissue characteristics and translates them into different contrast levels on the image. Because the procedure is safe, radiation-free, and poses no side effects, a loved one is welcome to be with you during the study. This is especially helpful for children and elderly patients. We understand that diagnostic testing can be frightening, so our warm and compassionate staff is specially trained to care for you. Our tech is available, via an intercom system, to talk with you during the procedure.
